Introducing our ninth Hero of Pride!
In celebration of the NYC arrival of WorldPride 2019, The Mixx is honoring 12 individuals who are making a difference in the lives of the LGBTQ community. Our ninth Pride Hero is Ann Bradstreet Brown, Director of Global Brand Supply Chain at Bumble and bumble, and Co-lead of The Estée Lauder Companies’ LBGTQ Employee Resource Group. Read the interview below!
What is your favorite thing about being involved in the NYC LGBTQ community?
ANN: I love the fact that I can work as a lead on the wELCome LGBTQ Employee Resource Group inside the company I work for, The Estée Lauder Companies, and change minds every day. I also love to be able to help elevate our reputation as an Inclusive and Diverse company to work for. This opportunity to lead has opened up so many relationships for me outside of the company with multiple LGBTQ Non-Profit and other organizations such as I’m from Driftwood, Tyler Clementi Foundation, DapperQ, Rainbow Fashion Week, The Point Foundation, SAGE, Thorp, LLC, NGLCCNY, Out in Fashion & Beauty and NewFest, NYC’s LGBTQ Film and Media Arts Organization, where I am now a Board Member. I was also asked to speak on a panel at SXSW in March 2019, representing The Estée Lauder Companies, with Anita Dolce Vita – Owner, Creative Director and Editor in Chief of DapperQ.com. The panel will discuss “Blurred Lines” – Beauty in a Gender Fluid World. This is the just the start. I feel that there is so much more to come, for me to participate in and help to give a voice to our community on the journey to equality and acceptance.
Who is your “Pride Hero” and why?
ANN: Edie Windsor – because she believed in Love and she did not stop until she won! Love does truly Win!
What is your favorite Pride Weekend activity?
ANN: My favorite Pride Weekend Activity is the March. I have participated in the March for the last 3 years with The Estée Lauder Companies’ ERG for LGBTQ employees. Coordinating and being “in” the March feels like we are making a difference on the ground and from the Company level outwards to the community at large. It is very exhilarating helping to be a voice for the community. The crowds along the streets really want to feel like they are a part of it and I feel that for one day at least we can be change makers.
As a partner to the LGBTQ Community, The Mixx is thrilled to be able to put the spotlight on some of our personal heroes all year long. Stay tuned for the next installment, and reach out for more on how YOU can get involved with WorldPride 2019!
