Introducing our fourth Hero of Pride!

In celebration of the NYC arrival of WorldPride 2019, The Mixx is honoring 12 individuals who are making a difference in the lives of the LGBTQ community. Our fourth Pride Hero is Monica Boll, Managing Director at Accenture and Diversity & Inclusion advocate. Read the interview below!

What does Pride mean to you?

MONICA: Pride is about being happy with who you are and celebrating the uniqueness of each and every one of us. Inclusion and diversity are what make us more innovative and able to see and appreciate the creativity, talent and resourcefulness that our community brings to the world. It’s about love, accepting others and being accepted.

Who is your "Hero of Pride" and why?

MONICA: One of my Pride heroes, and lifelong heroes, is Billie Jean King. I grew up playing tennis and idolized Billie Jean for her pioneering spirit. She advanced women’s equality, punctuated in the 70’s by challenging Bobby Riggs in the Battle of the Sexes and beating him. She has always been a passionate activist for equality and social justice. In addition, she was an early leader and remains a vocal leader in our community. We need more heroes like her to encourage and be role models for the next generation. In this past year’s NYC Pride Parade, she served as the one of the Grand Marshalls. I can think of very few other iconic women who would have served our community better in the Pride celebration.

What is your favorite date spot in NYC?

MONICA: Ooohhh… I have so many. Dinner at the actual Oyster Bar at Grand Central and then seeing an independent film at the Paris Theater. In my neighborhood on the Upper West Side, it’s a cocktail at the Manhattan Cricket Club (a hidden gem) and then dinner at Burke & Wills downstairs. For a special occasion and impeccable service, it’s dinner at Lincoln at Lincoln Center.

As a partner to the LGBTQ Community, The Mixx is thrilled to be able to put the spotlight on some of our personal heroes all year long. Stay tuned for the next installment, and reach out for more on how YOU can get involved with WorldPride 2019!
